How I came to be an Intimate Wax Specialist, Laser Consultant and Wax Trainer!

Being an expert in my industry means that I have a great reputation for doing the best job possible and a knack for putting people at ease. So much so that I have clients travel from not only Rotherham but Doncaster, Barnsley, Sheffield and all over South Yorkshire to visit me with my studio being really accessible from the M18, J1.

So perhaps it will bring you some comfort to learn about my own hairy journey and how The Secret Studio came to be…
As a dark haired woman in her early 40’s I’ve pretty much tried every option going. Being as pale as snow and having the darkest and most coarse bodily hair; excessive, unwanted hair was an issue for me from a very early age, from the moment I first became really aware of it.
Starting out with shaving in my early teens, dangling over the bath with my Dad’s Bic (eurrgh right!). After much hacking and chafing and many blood spot tissue dots later, the hairs were already growing back the same night! So okay, maybe my mum had a point ‘they’ll grow back thicker and you’ll have to shave everyday’. I knew from that moment that shaving wasn’t for me and even at this early age I began to search for a better option.
So… I discovered epilation a little later on and after falling for the promises made on tv ads I felt like all my dreams had come true… I begged my mum for a Braun for my sweet 16th. I ran straight to my room after opening it, thinking yes finally, I would emerge with fresh, silky smooth skin that would last for weeks… reality was that after attacking my body with what felt like crab claws, I never actually got to experience the results because I managed about a foot of skin before the tears in my eyes started flowing! I stuffed the Braun in the back of my bedside draw where it belonged and that’s where it stayed forever! Back to the blade it was, though as I now had a Saturday job I did advance at this point to a pink shiny Gillette haha!
I tried waxing for the first time in my early 20’s, just before I went on my first holiday abroad. It drove me crazy growing the hairs and it was also quite a painful experience. The results were great for my holiday but sure enough the hair soon returned and I thought I couldn’t go on growing the hairs (I didn’t know the true benefits of waxing at this point as nobody bothered to explain it to me) so back to shaving I went.
I experimented with a few other options in the meantime, hair removal creams… messy, smelly and hair was back in a day. Magic hair removal sponge… erm yeah! At this point I felt I tried everything and shaving seemed like the only viable option. Though the stubble, irritation, ingrown hairs and shaving rash that it left me with made me feel so fed up and embarrassed and I never could achieve the smooth, soft skin that I longed for.
I started my career in the beauty industry in my late 30’s, after seeing a Christmas offer at a specialist wax salon I decided to try waxing once more… and my life was honestly transformed.
Going to a specialist salon made such a difference to my experience, the techniques were virtually painless, they explained the whole hair cycle process to me and why I hadn’t achieved great results before. I was hooked and fascinated, so much so that I eventually trained as a waxing specialist myself, initially intended as a hobby.
After a few months as my passion for helping people like myself; with coarse, excessive, unwanted hair, grew and grew. I quickly realised that this was the job for me and so I gave up my teaching career and The Secret Studio was born (originally as Sally’s Secret Studio).
Having being a successful intimate wax specialist for several years and helping hundreds of women to feel more empowered, confident, happy and care free in their own skin I have never taken for granted how amazing my job is and how much I love it. I truly have never woken up since starting this career and thought… ‘I don’t want to go to work today’.
I began to think how I could help other women that were; maybe stuck in a job they hate; wanting a change in career; to earn an extra income; or wanting to enhance their own beauty business. Fortunately, I had spent many hours with Natalie Sanderson, the CEO and founder of ‘VWax’ and the innovative ‘VMould’ intimate wax technique and so when the opportunity arose for me to become a VWax Trainer and Educator, it was the perfect role for me.
So finally in my early 40’s, with body hair that was now more manageable and much finer, softer and sparser I was definitely in a much happier place that in previous years. However, as much as I love the results of waxing and I will forever be passionate about it, there was still a part of me that just longed to have a more long term solution and a way to permanently reduce my hair. To just be completely free from the time taken up with my own hair removal.
I started to do a lot of research into other options and this is when I discovered the real ‘Game Changer’ – LASER HAIR REMOVAL! The treatment I have forever been searching for, where I have finally achieved clean; smooth; hair free; soft; silky and most importantly for me… intimate bits with no ingrown hairs, ALL THE TIME!
So finally… finally, I feel I’m at the end of my life’s struggle of battling and fighting against my hairy body and no longer have to worry about managing the excessive hair misery that has haunted me forever!
Of course, I had to share my new found secret and make sure I could offer this amazing service to my own clients but it was also very important to me to have a completely pain free option for laser hair reduction. Having experienced painful treatments for myself in the past, I mean who wants that if you don’t have to!
And so here we are today… The Secret Studio is now a specialist hair removal salon; my haven and my happy place.

Providing a safe; private; secure and comfortable space because I know exactly how it feels to be self-conscious and embarrassed about visiting a busy bustling salon where you just don’t feel that you fit in and you want to die just thinking about getting your kit off for a different face every visit.
